Research and Ranking Methodology
The practical process behind our candy rankings, comparisons, and label-led guides.

1. Define the Reader's Job
Every guide begins with a specific decision: choosing a sour format, comparing two exact brand products, planning a party quantity, or finding products whose current labels fit a dietary requirement. A product can rank differently when the job changes.
2. Build an Exact Product Set
We identify products by brand, product name, and variant rather than ranking vague categories such as "fruit gummies." Products must be relevant to the query and have enough current public information to evaluate. Availability alone does not guarantee inclusion.
3. Check Primary Sources
Our preferred evidence is the manufacturer's current product page, official ingredient or allergen disclosure, package image, and a recognized certification body when certification matters. Retail listings can help confirm package formats or availability, but they are not the final authority for formula-sensitive claims.
4. Compare Relevant Criteria
- Format: shape, coating, size, portioning, and package design.
- Flavor and texture signals: the maker's stated flavor range and chew format, without inventing a tasting result.
- Label fit: gelatin, animal-derived ingredients, sweeteners, allergens, and current certification language.
- Use-case fit: sharing, favors, candy tables, travel, seasonal presentation, or individual snacking.
- Limitations: formula variability, certification scope, package mismatch, or other reasons to verify before buying.
5. Separate Research from Testing
Unless an article documents a sample, date, panel, and method, it is a research guide rather than a hands-on taste test. We do not turn manufacturer descriptions or customer comments into first-person experience claims.
6. Cite, Review, and Update
Material product claims receive source links. The editorial review checks exact names, source relevance, unsupported claims, article structure, and useful tradeoffs. We revisit pages when important product information changes and update the date only after a meaningful revision.
Dietary and Allergen Limits
Recipes and facilities change, and similarly named variants can differ by country or package. Our dietary guides are shopping research, not medical advice. Always read the package you will consume and contact the manufacturer when an allergy or strict dietary requirement is involved.
